This year, Episcopal Charities has invited several folks to reflect on a central text from the Advent lectionary: “Strengthen the weak hands, and make firm the feeble knees. Say to those who are of a fearful heart, “Be strong, do not fear!”
This text from Isaiah 35:3-4 also inspired Chicago photographer Jade Tomeny to create this photoshoot. Her vision captures women inspired and strong and empowered- proclaiming this capacity to strengthen each other and encourage fearful hearts.
In Advent, we are drawn into the courage of Mary, whose faith empowered her to bear God to the world. Like Mary, Episcopal Charities seeks to respond to the deep needs of the most vulnerable in our diocese through our the vital work of our Ministry Partners.
