Making a Bequest to Episcopal Charities

A bequest is a charitable gift you include in your will or other estate plans. Although most bequests are included in the main body of your will it is possible to add a gift even if your will is done and current. This is done through acodicil, or brief attachment to your original will.

When making a bequest, you need to decide how much to give. You either can leave a percentage of your estate or a specific amount. A significant benefit of making your bequest using a percentage is that, if the value of your estate decreases, your bequest always will stay in proportion to the rest of your estate as you originally intended.

To include a charitable bequest in your will to support the work of Episcopal Charities and Community Services, use this wording:

To give a percentage of your estate:

I hereby bequeath to Episcopal Charities and Community Services, presently located at 65 E. Huron, Chicago, Illinois, _____% of the residue of my estate to be used to fulfill the organization’s mission at the discretion of its govern- ing board.

To give a specific amount:

I hereby bequeath to Episcopal Charities and Community Services, presently located at 65 E. Huron, Chicago, Illinois, the sum of $________ from the res-idue of my estate to be used to fulfill the organization’s mission at the discre- tion of its governing board.
