O Radix Jesse

O Root of Jesse, standing as a sign among the peoples;

before you kings will shut their mouths,

to you the nations will make their prayer:

Come and deliver us and delay no longer.

(from the O Antiphons)

As we end the year and look to the coming of the One in whom our hope is placed, the board and staff of Episcopal Charities are grateful for you, for your faith, and for your generosity this year.  In the midst of a deeply challenging season, your gifts enable us to touch the lives of so many throughout the diocese of Chicago.

This Christmas, please consider a generous gift to support the work to which we are called as children of God.  We need you now, more than ever, to meet the needs of the most vulnerable in our communities.

Blessings to you and yours,

The Rt. Rev. Jeffrey Lee

Bishop and Chairman of the Board of Trustees

These designs were drawn and designed by French illustrator Guillaume Sardin for Episcopal Charities. He was inspired by Isaiah 11:1: “ A shoot will come up from the stump of Jesse; from his roots, a Branch will bear fruit.”

“I love the message within Isaiah 11.1, From a stump, when hope has been shattered, the lord gives the strength and force to grow back with more love and faith.

My illustration shows the shoot that Isaiah prophesied emerging. Over time, the stump has grown into a lush tree and now bears fruits and flowers, each representative of the generations of people that spread the message of hope. For me, Advent is all about this message. This time reminds us that the future is full of hope.
